A good leader knows how to carve their own path while drawing inspiration from great leaders who have gone before them.

Here are three leadership quotes that continue to inspire me on my journey.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Said by the great John Quincy Adams.

This means that great leaders aren’t necessarily more intelligent, better qualified, fitter or stronger than anyone else. Their unique power lies in bringing out the best in the people they lead to achieve unity and greatness together.

Next is a quote from author and speaker Simon Sinek. “To be a good listener, practice to be the last to speak”

Too often we listen only to respond. While a person is speaking, we are busy formulating our response instead of hearing what they are really communicating through their words, facial and body gestures. Sometimes people are so eager to respond they don’t even let the person finish speaking but by waiting, we allow people to express their views and fully comprehend before responding with wise words.

Finally, Dwight Eisenhower said: “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your team credit for everything that goes well”

A true leader understands how important teamwork is to achieving results. But on the flip side, a good leader should be the first one to step up and admit their part when things go wrong rather than passing the blame onto others. This attitude is inspirational because teams know their leader has their back and will not abandon them when times get tough.
